It has been a wild few weeks. I went from thinking about how I wanted to start a podcast for the past couple of years to now producing and hosting two of them.
When I joined the media lab at NedSpace and the team behind This Is PDX I knew part of that would be re-launching the podcast and youtube channel and much of my attention has been on that. Learning, filming, interviewing, scheduling, teaching myself to edit, and the re-launch. But I always had my eye on doing my own podcast and I knew that if I am going to do it, now is the time.
With access to a podcast studio and the connections I have made in the indie film community in Portland, I am ready to launch Oregon Indie Film. With a website and the socials I had followers before I even announced the launch. It has all come together in its own time.
I am currently booking guests for the first season and episodes will be dropping regularly. I am hoping for a least one episode a week for a few months.
If you are reading this and want to be a guest or if you know someone who would be a good fit, I have a simple form to start the conversation.
You will soon find Oregon Indie Film in all the usual places where you listen to podcasts. In the meantime, the youtube channel is set up and the video versions will be found there.
But what about my filmmaking?
Well, I am headed to New York at the end of this month to the Valkyrie International Film Festival with Almost Boston. I am nominated for Best Comedy Short at this festival that celebrates female directors. I am incredibly honored to be nominated for my very first film!
For those that are local, Almost Boston will also be screening on the same day at the Hillsboro Film Festival. Unfortunately, I cannot be in two places at once and since I am nominated for an award on the east coast, I am going there. No word on award nominations yet for the west coast festival.
I also just finished a short, proof of concept documentary on women’s empowerment through spiritual healing. I filmed, interviewed, and edited this short doc. I will be screening as part of Portland Start Up Week next week.
Writing . . . . oh yes, I am also writing a new feature screenplay. A drama this time. Getting a little writing time here and there. I really want to finish this one this month with an eye on possibly filming later this summer. I still have my short rom com that I want to film but I need a bus! Greyhound has already given me a firm “No”, so if you know someone who works for a tour bus company in Portland (I have a lead on a southern Oregon tour bus company) I would love to be connected to get this fun short film in production.
We are wrapping up the last weekend of shows for Doug’s play No Sex Without Toys. Such a fun and successful run of three weeks for Broken Toe Productions and for Doug and the talented cast and crew. You have two more chances to see it. Tonight and tomorrow night.
I hope to see you there.
