I am so very sorry for the one day delay in this week’s lesson/post. I was on set yesterday. But I’m back with a fun expansion on creating supporting characters. They are so important in your story. We’ll be covering the different types of supporting characters by taking a deep dive into each over the next few weeks.

Deep Dive: The Mirror Character

The Mirror character shows your protagonist what they could become, for better or worse.

Why the Mirror Works

The audience learns about your protagonist not only by what they do, but also by how they contrast with someone similar.

  • The mirror reflects shared traits.

  • The differences highlight the stakes of the protagonist’s choices.

  • They make the theme personal : “This is what I’ll become if I don’t change.”
